The prime minister, Anthony Albanese , is speaking in Perth, where he said there will be “no change” to WA’s share of the GST while he is in the top job:

That has consistently been my view. The floor of 75% will absolutely stay. I think that WA deserves that. Because WA contributes to the national economy, and helps to drive that economy.

The WA premier, Roger Cook, said West Australians would be “relieved and pleased to hear the words from the prime minister today that Western Australia’s arrangements for the GST will remain”.
