Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders seek legal action against My Chemical Romance over mimicking iconic costumes

The parent company of the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders is taking legal action against My Chemical Romance after the band performed alongside dancers in costumes resembling the iconic cheerleading team’s uniforms this week.
Pro Silver Star, which owns the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders brand, filed a motion for a temporary restraining order and preliminary injunction Friday in district court in Dallas County, Texas, seeking to bar the alternative rock band from using the costumes onstage.
My Chemical Romance, best known for its 2000s hits “Teenagers” and “Welcome to the Black Parade,” performed Wednesday at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles with dancers wearing outfits that appeared nearly identical to the squad’s iconic white and blue uniforms, according to the court filing.
The dancers carried what appeared to be rifles and engaged in a staged firefight, “only to be depicted being shot,” the filing states.
“Audience members and online commentators understandably believed that the performers were the real Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders and said so in social media posts that continue to circulate,” Pro Silver Star wrote.
The company said it was “not litigious” and “takes no issue with MCR’s music, its artistic ambitions, or any message Defendants seek to convey.”

“Silver Star asks only that those performers not wear the DCC Uniform while doing it,” the filing states. “The universe of alternative costume designs is effectively unlimited.”
